The Golden State Natural Resource — a rural county-founded nonprofit agency — wants two wood pellet processing plants in Tuolomme and Lassen counties that harvest trees cut down in forest thinning projects, then trucks the pellets to the Port of Stockton where they would be shipped to international energy markets as a replacement for coal burning. Last June, 109 environmental organizations submitted comments strongly opposing the project.
