Eurovision story seems to be ending for Joost 📸 EBU – Sarah Louise Bennett

Several months after the events of 9th of May , the competition’s backround is still monopolized by the special Dutch artist Joost Klein!

10 days ago, as you were the first to know at OGAE Greece , it seemed that he was willing to “get his revenge”, but moments ago, a suprissing announcement came to change everything!

EUROVISION HAS ENDED FOR JOOST

This is because Joost Klein , with an announcement on his communication channel on Instagram, clarifies that he will not be the representative of the Netherlands in Basel :

Is it greed or is it desire?

I have made the decision not to participate in Eurovision 2025.

My team and I had everything ready, but I just doesh’t feel good. I am very thankful for all the love around the world, however I am still very affected by this year. I need to give myself more time to heal.

It was my dream to do Eurovision and we did that. For months i had this feeling that i needed to make a return to finish the job, but in reality: we reached a higher goal. “Europapa” united a lot of people. This story isn’t just about me, it’s about us. I am grateful. People from all over the world are trying to learn Dutch and this makes me very proud of my language. We achieved something previously claimed to be impossible. We used the real power of the internet.

So maybe I was blinded, but now I see clear. I have to follow the light. Not fight against it. The media will be the media, but I have no place in that. I’m not made for this big machine. My path is different and I welcome anybody who would like to join this adventure. Trust the process.

I believe one of my purposes in life is to connect people. Through music, (digital) art and performance art. My tour around Europe and USA is sold out and I can’t wait to play my new album there. Let’s all come together. This life is crazy, but you know… I’m still standing.

This seems to close the Eurovision case for the Dutch superstar for now, at the same time that the Netherlands will participate as normal and AVROTROS is now called upon to find a new representative.

The country’s national broadcaster has decided to participate in the 69th edition of the competition after receiving sufficient guarantees from the EBU that structural changes will be implemented at the music festival.

THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF AVROTOS

AVROTROS, along with other countries, pushed for structural changes. The broadcaster is satisfied with the package of measures now in place and looks positively to the future. Specific changes have been introduced, such as:

1. Appointment of a security officer in the artists’ environment;

2. Severe curtailment of behind-the-scenes filming;

3. A “safe space” for artists behind the scenes where they will not be disturbed.

4. A judgment panel consisting of representatives of the EBU, the participating countries and the broadcaster organiser, so that important decisions are taken democratically;

5. Appointment of Martin Green as the new director of Eurovision to oversee these changes

AVROTROS continues to closely monitor this process, but is optimistic and confident about the renewal of Europe’s biggest music festival.

Meanwhile, the Dutch channel proceeded to open the submission process, which will last until Friday, November 22 !
