The funeral of Cillian Flaherty (15), who died suddenly this week, will take place on Saturday, with mourners asked to wear bright colours in his memory.
Cillian was due to appear on the new season of Ireland’s Fittest Family on RTÉ, which has been postponed following his death.
Tributes continue to be paid to the teenager, who was a third-year student at Blakestown Community School in Blanchardstown, Dublin. He is remembered as someone with a smile who could “light up any room”.
His school said the news has come as a “huge shock”, describing Cillian as a “very popular member” of the school community who will be “hugely missed by all those who knew him”.
One mourner described him as a “charming, helpful, witty, fun and clever” child, with another saying Cillian was a student with a “big personality and presence around the school”.
“It already feels emptier for his loss,” they added.
He was an enthusiastic sportsperson and played soccer for Mountview Boys and Girls FC.
The Dublin and District Schoolboys’/Girls’ League also paid tribute.
“The thoughts of all the footballing community are with Cillian’s family, friends and all at MBG FC,” a spokesperson said.
Cillian’s family have requested that those attending his funeral wear bright colours to the service, especially sky blue.
His death notice stated: “Sadly missed by his loving mother, father, brother, sister, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives, neighbours and a large group of good mates.”
Cillian will lie in repose at his home this evening and tomorrow evening from 5pm until 8pm.
His funeral mass will take place at 11am on Saturday at the Church of St Philip the Apostle, Mountview, followed by burial in Mulhuddart Cemetery.
