  1. usually these aren’t enviromentalists. just as the right wing party’s touting nuclear aren’t environmentalist party’s. nuclear is almost exclusively used as a diversion from meaningful change. its a symbol for not changing, for techbro optimism, the delusion that we can technologically innovate our way out of problems.

yes nuclear can help with climate change, we can use a bit of it in the long term. but if it takes away from investments in solar or wind its always a bad investment, because those just reduce emissions more and sooner.

  2. Finally some sense, though probably insufficient. We are suffering the consequences of stopping nuclear development and we will keep suffering from it because we are moving too slowly.

But it’s good to see pushback inside the environmentalist circles dominated by urban druids shaped by propaganda paid with oil dollars.

  3. Maybe the environmentalists are starting to take themselves seriously? I hope they abandon their moral and emotional climate policy for one thats more grounded in reality and less so in the clouds, so to speak.

The fact that every party in my country’s parliament has better climate policy than the climate party is honestly quite sad at this point.

  4. “Stand up for nuclear”, just as “Mothers for nuclear” are nuclear greenwashing organisations. There is no need to “stand up” for an industry that has received more in subsidies than both the fossil fuel and renewable sector *combined*.

  5. Makes sense – nuclear is cleanest RELIABLE energy source. Sure wind and solar has slightly lower Co2/Kwh (NOT 0, which many people still has wrong), hydro needs particular geography… but the problem with them is that they are just not reliable enough to depend on, and they all also have other issues – solar requires dirty batteries and very toxic process to make and dispose off, wind kills birds and destroys landscape, hydro also has creates a lot of environmental damage. Particularly for Northern Europe solar is not suitable and wind is really unpredictable, so nuclear is next best thing.

  6. pro-nuclear is the latest delay tactic from fossil fuel lobby. luckily nobody with money is listening to this crap.

solar, wind + storage is in full swing right now (exponential growth).

in Romania alone, next year 2.4 GW will come online, from a pipeline of renewable projects totaling 51 GW (that would be 2.8x the current installed capacity from all sources). not all project will be completed I’m sure, but even a third of these in the medium term will double our installed capacity.
