  1. In the United States, women outnumber men (roughly 51-49%), but since 1980, women have been voting in numbers that exceed their advantage. For example, in 2008 (the widest disparity charted here), about 69.2 million women voted to 61.7 million men for roughly a 7.5 million-vote advantage.

Data coalesced in MacOS Numbers and R, then plotted via ggplot with annotations and refinements done in Adobe Illustrator.

A spreadsheet of population data is shared here:

Note: Population data (including survey estimates) were normalized to Historical Reported Voting Rates to accommodate for changes in qualification of the Voting Eligible population.

BTW, the bars for “2024” are drawn according to 2023 Census Survey estimates and 2020 vote reports.

  2. I’m a man, and I predict it’s going to be a huge margin this year now that we’re in the post-Dobbs era. 7+% difference.

  3. A lot of leftists like to blame men for every Republican victory, but it’s important to remember that if every woman voted blue, it wouldn’t matter a damn what men did

  4. The Matriarchy is real, they truly hold all the power. Just a joke ladies. The margin has just been increasing as well that is crazy. 4-7 percent difference is absolutely crazy. Why is the difference so much? Like come on fellas we gotta represent.

  5. So basically it’s women’s fault our modern government is the way it is.

  6. Because women live longer, what percent of Americans age 18+ are women? It’s more than 50% for sure.

  7. “In the United States, women outnumber men (roughly 51-49%)”. More importantly, older women significantly outnumber older men, and old folks are more likely to vote than younger ones. My speculation is that the difference in voter participation across age groups can explain the 52%-48% gap among voters.

  8. Elderly people vote more than younger generations, and there’s moderately more elderly women than elderly men. That’s my suspicion as to the why of this.

  9. If you break this down into raw vote count it actually means men and women voted for Trump in fairly similar numbers overall. More women broke for Biden, but a higher percentage of women also voted in general. That’s kinda wild.

  10. Not surprising given the education system is expressly designed to demoralize young men

  11. I would have expected to see a bump in women turnout in 2016, just like there was a bump in black turnout in 2008..

  12. Friendly reminder that if only white people voted, there would’ve been no Democrat president since LBJ

  13. If you break it down by race, it gets even more interesting.

National Results 2020 President Exit Polls

As a % of the electorate

    White men – 35%

    White women – 32%

    Black men – 4%

    Black women – 8%

    Latino men – 5%

    Latino women 8%

So among whites, men vote more than women.

Among blacks and Latinos, women vote way more than men.

  14. And things just keep getting worse…I’m willing to bet it more to do w generation than gender. Any data available about voter generation?
