  1. I’m going to get hate for it, but I’m glad Octopus is doing well. They’ve clearly invested in their service more than any other. Great app, great novel tariffs (they actually email you when there’s free electricity) and the one time I’ve needed them by chat (most things you can do yourself) they were great. None of that fake HSBC Indian call centre ‘thank you so much sir’.

  2. Bulb messed up but Octopus thrived. I like it when companies are profitable when they played smart, were efficient and had good customer service, instead of just being a monopoly in an industry with too high a barrier to entry, it some other crony capitalism.

Long may they prosper and hope they don’t turn into Scottish power level of incompetency and size.

  3. I LOVE octopus. Feels weird saying about that when I hate so many companies, it’s rare to feel even remotely positive about them. Use them at home, ring them and can talk to someone who knows what they’re doing usually immediately. No silly 30-60 minute wait times like ALL the other providers. How the rest are in business still baffles me.

Recently got a commercial premises, and was tearing my hair out trying to arrange the electric supplier, complained to a friend I had called EDF (the incumbent) 3/4 times and eventually spent over an hour on hold and got no where. Sheer incompetence, lack of customer service and chargeable calls. He then asked why didn’t I use octopus like he did? I didn’t realise they did commercial too… rung them, within 5 mins account is sorted, the queries EDF couldn’t answer sorted AND got me £50 referral credit for me (both ways, so free £100!) because I mentioned I used them at home.

How can they get it so right when others get it so wrong? The CS rep answered this question and said when they took over Shell Energy, SE had approx 8 different systems to manage everything. Octopus has one, which clearly works. Hope the rest go bankrupt.
