There are a bunch of reasons to think that the rate of emissions is going to start falling at some point during 2024; the US and EU are already seeing falling emissions & [China’s seem to be on the cusp of doing the same.](https://www.carbonbrief.org/analysis-chinas-co2-falls-1-in-q2-2024-in-first-quarterly-drop-since-covid-19/)
