On October 28, Will Bosi flashed Jana Švecová’s Dune in Stařechovícký Lom, Czechia. Švecová established the crimpy line in December last year, but two holds have broken since then, leaving it without a repeat. Bosi’s ascent is the second and he believes the problem could now be V14 (8B+) post-break. You can watch Bosi’s flash in video by Švecová embedded below.
“Somehow I managed to just pull it out the bag and get the flash,” said Bosi about his ascent of Dune on Instagram. “Definitely felt harder than [V13] but it’s so hard to grade on flash [tries] so hopefully it will see more attention soon.”
Dune is an eight-move problem that starts seated before working its way up a 30-degree overhanging face through a series of bad holds and tiny crimps. It’s a sit-start variation of Crimp Busters, a V10 Švecová established in early November 2023. The sit start adds five hard moves into the three-move Crimp Busters.
Dune is Bosi’s second V14 flash. In April 2022, he flashed Martin Stranik’s Charizard V14 while climbing with Adam Ondra in Czechia. Earlier this month, with his ascent of Aidan Roberts’ Spots of Time V17, Bosi made history by becoming the first climber to send four V17 problems. He sent Shawn Raboutou’s Alphane V17 in October 2022, Nalle Hukkataival’s Burden of Dreams V17 in April 2023, and Daniel Woods’ Return of the Sleepwalker V17 in February this year.
