Bulgarian Foreign Minister Ivan Kondov Wednesday met with the Czech Minister for European Affairs, Martin Dvorak, who is visiting Bulgaria, the Foreign Ministry said here on Wednesday.

The two sides highly praised bilateral cooperation and discussed ways to deepen the interaction in areas of shared interest, both on a bilateral basis and within international organizations. Kondov thanked Czechia for joining the fire-fighting effort in Bulgaria in July.

The Czech Minister reaffirmed his country’s strong support for the lifting of Schengen land border controls on Bulgaria. Kondov noted the significant drop in attempted illegal migration through the country due to the efforts made, and said he expected a positive decision of the Council of the European Union by the year’s end.

The two ministers discussed matters of current interest on the European agenda, support for Ukraine and EU enlargement. They stressed the importance of the own merits approach in meeting the conditions and commitments made during the EU enlargement process.
