  1. Galway needs a master plan to fix decades of poor city planning. A ring road or Gluas isn’t enough. The ring road will likely cost well over a billion, it was priced at €700 million 10 year’s ago. With that much money to spend is there better projects that could fix Galway.

  2. Build the dam ring road. Galway deserves it and more than pulls its weight financially. 15k people work in biomedical in parkmore alone. Ringroad first.

  3. The Cluas has been just around the corner now for the last decade.

The Gluas is hardly going to happen before the Cluas.

  4. This gov only do sticking plasters. Ye’ll be lucky to get a new set of traffic lights

  5. I live in Galway city, the bypass/ring road saga has been going on for over three decades. A consorted turned group of environmentalists and other do-gooders have frustrated getting something built. There are other factors such as poor political leadership and city planning but this is the biggest.

The experts writing the reports don’t really care because it is an infinite source of money for them. Every couple of years bucketloads of money is wasted on projects that will never see the light of day.

A light rail system will not work for Galway because of the narrow mediaeval streets, what will ultimately be built would be miles away from where it needs to be.

I have to say I love all the commentary from people who live hundreds of miles away from the city and have absolutely no skin in the game.

  6. It’s pretty spectacular the governing parties of Ireland fucked up so badly with traffic there

Galway had a population of circa 20,000 in the 60s,and the government made an effort to develop it/industry in the west and never sought to make it livable for people……it’s effectively a planned town, and this is some mess

  7. Maybe we could convince the government to use Galway as a trial city for a full blown metro system

  8. Good luck getting the locals to agree to it. They lose their shit anytime road space being taken away for public transport is suggested.

  9. If the much discussed Cork light rail is any guide nothing will happen for 20 years, followed by nothing happening.

  10. G-g-g-g-Gluas. If they took off the traffic lights off some of those roundabouts with the 10k tailbacks it might help. There’s plenty of times there’s nobody moving.
