Renard was hired as sporting director on Sept. 28, 2019. He was then promoted to vice-president and chief sporting officer in June 2022, when he signed an indefinite contract extension.
During Renard’s four and a half year stint, CF Montréal managed to implement a development system that helped the team achieve success on the field while serving as a springboard to Europe for talented players.
The club notably contributed to the development of players like Ismaël Koné, Djordje Mihailovic and Alistair Johnston, before continuing their careers in Europe.
“Under Renard’s leadership, the Canadian club rose to the top of the MLS, reaching the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Champions League, winning the Canadian Championship Cup, and finishing third in the MLS in 2022,” read a statement sent by RSC Anderlecht on Wednesday.
“Renard also distinguished himself with a series of notable incoming and outgoing transfers and a recruitment of young talents.”
Before that, Renard also served as sporting director or adviser to Belgian clubs such as Royal Antwerp FC, Standard Liège and KV Mechelen. During his career as a goalkeeper, he played for clubs such as Charleroi, Standard, KV Mechelen and also three Italian teams (Udinese, Naples and Modena).
“After five years in the MLS, it feels great to return to Belgium in this role,” Renard said in the team statement. “It is an honour to work at a club like RSC Anderlecht. I will focus on recruitment, transfer policy, and overall management of the first team. I especially look forward to working with the country’s best talents.”
This season, RSC Anderlecht qualified for the championship stage of the UEFA Europa League, where they lead with three consecutive victories. In the championship, it currently occupies provisional sixth place, after 12 days.
