context: it’s only controversial to the losing party and the heads of the supreme court lol… the losing party lost the presidency by about 20 MILLION FUCKING VOTES LOL, also the winning coalition has a qualified majority in the senate and congress because everyone was tired of the old, corrupt parties (which coalesced, even though they were considered ideological opposites whattt) that put Mexico into a violent drug war, and thus the left-leaning coalition won all the seats
the losers have tried to obstruct all reforms to the constitution, even with a violent attack on the senate in which workers of the supreme court and hired goons stormed the senate to stop the reform from being voted in, a-la j6
we got our own MAGA, folks!
Given how dysfunctional, corrupt, and controlled by cartels Mexico’s democracy already is, making judicial positions elected will only make it even easier for the cartels to get even more influence.
