“The United States’ support, which acknowledges that the time has come for a fair and sustainable solution to the Cyprus issue within the framework of United Nations Security Council resolutions, is yet another significant moment that adds momentum to the developments of recent months,” stated Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis during his meeting with the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, at the Maximos Mansion this afternoon.
President Christodoulides recently visited the U.S., where he met with President Joe Biden.
The Greek Prime Minister noted that the meeting with the U.S. President, after a 28-year gap, is a highly significant moment for Cyprus and its president. He expressed confidence that it underscores the strategic relationship that Cyprus has now established with the United States, in continuation of Greece’s own strategic ties.
Christodoulides, who briefed the Prime Minister on his meeting with Biden, stated that the most important outcome was the U.S. recognition of the role that both Cyprus and Greece play in the region. He added that he was pleased to see this strategic alignment bearing results and being acknowledged.
“There can be no hesitations in foreign policy. We are on the right side of history, and this undoubtedly strengthens our efforts for a resolution of the Cyprus issue at this crucial juncture,” Christodoulides said.
