As a non-American, Scandinavian person, it pains me to see the brigading and outright silencing of any critical voices about the US political duopoly on this sub. The mods removed a post featuring Greta Thunberg’s un-endorsement for either major candidate, for crying out loud.
Please, good people of America, don’t attack people for being more leftist or progressive than you or for voting for a candidate who is too radical for you. As Greta said: join and support those who are leading the change.

As much as I love and respect Greta, please do not tell me to not vote for either candidate. On the eve of my country tipping either towards a future of possible change and improvement, or utter and complete destruction at the hands of authoritarian oligarchy, we have but one choice in this election. Vote Harris. Thanks.
No comment on the censor, but I am very disappointed that Greta is graying the area between one party that passed the largest climate bill ever and the other that says climate change doesn’t exist. She’s abandoning her climate stance in favor of a specific conflict.
If she’s not talking about climate change, not sure why she’s being posted on this sub. Her focus seems to be on Gaza.
People say that taking part in the process can push the parties to the left but in reality it seems that instead it pushes voters to the right. So many I know that where opposed to the Iraq war are now indistinguishable from neoconservatives.
This is a climate change sub. Greta only cares about Gaza now. So, she’s not substantive anymore. Unless she has pivoted again to environmental causes?
She won’t suffer the domestic consequences of a Trump win. She’ll only feel them when everyone else has suffered and climate change can no longer be escaped by going to another country.
Her opinion on this election is irrelevant. She should have stuck to that one issue, climate change, rather than wade into all issues.
“don’t let perfect be the enemy of good” is such an important mindset when thinking about climate and elections. Especially when the electoral system isn’t geared up to more than a 2 party system.
Yes, neither US candidate is very green however Trump is, by a significant order of magnitude, worse.
Harris would continue the slow transition in the US but Trump would roll it all back and do immense damage to the action that’s already been taken. Let alone the impact he’d have across the globe.
Greta’s opinion is overrated by to many people.
If we all don’t get Harris elected- all hope for change for environmental protection and climate protection goes out the window.
On an issue as devastating as the climate crisis (or Gaza for that matter), we need to understand the rules and stakes of the contests/arenas/venues we’re actually in.
It’s vital to work passionately to change the rules of the arena over time. It’s strategically necessary to work in multiple different ways and places.
It’s not effective or smart to expect the game you’re playing to offer choices it does not offer, or to operate by some hypothetical other set of rules you wish it had.
Go vote for the best option you’ve got. Tell the inadequate candidate exactly what your vote meant and did not mean. Most importantly, work on that day and every other day for the radically different options our future depends on.
Welcome to neolib apologist ‘Merica! Where your criticism offends our tender nationalism.
When I read “you cannot *only* settle for the least worst option” I don’t read it as a non-endorsement, just as a reminder that it won’t be enough (but we all know that).
You can’t even swear on this sub so I’m not surprised.
Greta’s critique of US imperialism and its role in greenhouse gas pollution and violence is entirely apt and correct. We should be thankful that the climate justice movement has figures willing to state this.
And yes, this sub is reactionary and I don’t think the discourse here is representative of climate activism in general, nor is it nuanced
yeah as another non american it’s pretty sad. my american friends have told me so much abt both parties too it’s not like either actually has any progressive values or commitments. one just pretends too but if you look at policy it’s not true. its like a mix between gang rivalries and reality tv
Probably won’t make you feel any better, but as an American who regularly follows the news, there’s plenty more censorship than just Thunberg…and it’s all horseshit and worse than a decent amount of the countries we label as “censoring”. Ironically, I think very little of it comes from the government and more from the platform holders themselves (or mods on a power trip). Whenever civil discourse is taking place, we shouldn’t be silencing it but promoting it. As the kids say…this timeline blows. 🤷♂️
as an american i apologize on the behalf of our country for not conprehending what a false dichotomy is.
This is only used by the right at this time to get trump elected. It is incredibly foolish to become a tool to get trump elected. Don’t do it. Vote Kamala.
As one not from the US, I find this kind of censorship unconscionable. Climate issues affect us all and should be way above any given country’s local politics. Even more so when these politics have degraded into the petty and disgusting spectacle we are all witnessing, where pressing climatic issues die a quick, ugly death.
Voices such as Greta’s, as well as others, need to be heard.
people can’t fathom nuance apparently. disappointing.
Greta’s post did not even *mention* “attack(ing) people…. for voting for a candidate who is too radical for you.”
That is OP’s sneaky expression of support for Jill Stein and the Green Party.
I don’t know the OP from Adam, but the Russian propaganda machine just loves it when they don’t have to work to split the Blue vote with votes for the currently-inept US Greens.
Most of the big subs on Reddit seem to be managed and modded by the same people or people with same pov
Russia war on Ukraine is genocide
Israel war on Hamas and mainly Palestinian civilians that are occupied and oppressed in Gaza is Israel needing to defend itself
I don’t think we can win this game, they control all aspects of media and social media and when I say they it’s not Jews it’s Jewish, Christian and even atheist zionists that are hell bent on silencing us
I’m not American. It pains me to see people on the left in other countries who live in political climates that are far more progressive and under political systems that have more than two viable parties refuse to understand the political realities of another country.
It’s Harris or fascism
Took a little while but eventually political money infiltrated the mods team.
Greta is privileged enough to live in a country that doesn’t have to vote on the U.S. election and I take her word on US politics with a grain of salt.
reddits main function is to weed out any controversial issues. this country is a deeply right wing cesspool and is only getting worse.
Lol.
Imagine saying you support the climate and NOT having a clear side in this election.
Sorry OP, just like Chappell Roan, you, and Greta, are completely wrong.
There IS a clear path forward. A right, and a wrong choice. This isn’t about some random wedge issues, or a debate over government spending.
This is literally voting on the future of the free world, and if you don’t get that, then maybe that’s why you have such a simplistic (incorrect) opinion on the issue.
Sorry/not sorry, you are wrong.
All Hail Maga, the unalienable right of europeans to colonize and genocide shall not be questioned.
Most subs ran by people from north America are snowflakes and will censore anything. So annoying it’s all about banning and censoring opposing views. Mods probably never leave their house and interact with the actual world
Greta Thunberg is a bright young women who I hope can continue to be a powerful activist for action on the climate crisis. She does not understand the global political order, she doesn’t understand US politics, and like most people her age, is getting endless videos of Gaza atrocities fed to her by social media that is trying to amplify the genocide in Gaza.
Just because someone is right about one thing doesn’t make them magically wise about all things. Ms Thunberg is not correct in this instance, and her fame and platform make her misunderstanding quite harmful.
A non-endorsement at this time is really a quiet endorsement for Trump, no matter how she tries to spin it. And any (even implicit) support for Trump is actively working against her goals.
Acknowledging reality doesn’t mean surrendering your idealism. One of those two people will win the election. This is an inevitability. One of those two people will clearly be better for the environment. This is a fact. Feel free to publicly lament the awfulness of that fact, but refusing to accept that one side is superior is performative nonsense.
It doesn’t matter who is speaking, if they are accusing both sides in the upcoming U.S. presidential election of being the same when it comes to just about any issue, they are either lying or being willfully ignorant.
> is to remember that you cannot only settle for the least worst option.
This is factually incorrect on her part. Under our current system that is literally the only thing we can choose.
She simply does not understand the American political process from a technical standpoint. In reality there are only two candidates. So, either you vote for the least worst candidate or your vote is completly irrelevant.
This reads like it was written by a Russian troll. Saying anything to dissuade voters from voting for Harris is horribly irresponsible. Trump will destroy the climate completely. There are only two choices, magical thinking is dangerous. Vote and shut people up that try to cool that effort. It’s survival at this point.
