Found this in my step-dads boxes, anyone know anything about these?

I know it's a flare made in West germany, although I'm unable to find anything about them, nor am I able to find the date of manufacture on the body of it, I apologize in advance for the poor photos, my camera isn't great at getting through the packaging.
If it says “Western Germany” it’s most likely from before 1990. Also, there is the 4-digit zip code, which was changed mid 1993 to 5 digits. Apart from that, Comet as the manufacturer still produces these flares. You can find some as “Seenotrettungsfackel” with a modern design.

Expired flares can be dangerous and should be disposed of safely. I would imagine this has expired a while ago.
