Team Canada White is facing the Finnish team in tomorrow’s quarterfinals of the U17 World Challenge.
Team White finished second in their pool of preliminary play after losing to Sweden in overtime, 5-4, on Nov. 5.
“I felt that Sweden was better in the important moments of the game, and unfortunately it cost us,” stated Canada White head coach Mathieu Turcotte post-game. “In tournaments like this, you always need to improve as the week goes on, and regardless of whether we were going to playing in a quarterfinal or a get a bye to the semifinals, we knew we were going to need to be better in our next game.”
Cochrane’s Ruley Boychuk is a member of the Team White and is currently in his first season with the WHL’s Prince Albert Raiders.
The Finns were winless in their two preliminary round games in the other pool. Team White heads into the game with a 3-goal differential over Finland. The winner advances to Friday’s semifinals.
Game time is 5:30 p.m. MST at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena in Sarnia, ON.
Team Red, the other Canadian team, went undefeated to top their pool to proceed directly to the semifinals.
TSN and RDS will be broadcasting the gold and bronze medal games on Nov. 9. The quarter and semifinals are being livestreamed by HNLive.ca.
