Why are Liechtenstein’s municipality borders so terrible?

  1. A quick oversimplified explanation is that most villages needed a place for their cattle to graze. These would be owned by the community (allmend) and be somewhere up in the mountains. As you can see the municipalities that are located in The Valley are the ones that have extra meadows further up. Hope that makes sense 🙂

Edit: Oh and of course Unterland used to be on its own as the Herrschaft Schellenberg so they don’t own meadows in the old Grafschaft Vaduz.
