I’m working on a list of every country’s most iconic cult film (list here: https://boxd.it/n5ZFs) and wondered if anyone could help me figure out Liechtenstein’s entry.
I’m looking for a film that might not be well-known outside the country’s borders. Perhaps it’s a film everyone knows, and is hugely popular only to Liechtenstein’s audiences, even if it wasn’t popular with critics. Or maybe it’s a film that wasn’t well-received by audiences or critics, but has gained a cult following in the years since its release.
Any suggestions would be most welcome!

  1. The small countries with very small movie industries will be hard, as all its own movies of course won’t count as cult movies. There was “Der Schuh des Manitu” which is probably Liechtensteins only cult movie, since for germany and austria you probably have some other movie, it was hugely popular there, but this movie probably all people from Liechtenstein know, especially the younger generations. It has a bavarian dialect which further made it very relatable in Liechtenstein. I would say as a whole this movie was probably more popular in liechtenstein overall than any other country. It was a huge hit, and its still in the minds of people somewhere, many watched it twice, but its old and will be forgotten, its not that it has a cult following, so not sure if it qualifies.
