Blackpool Tower ‘fire’ just orange netting in wind, say police
A suspected fire that broke out at the top of Blackpool Tower was actually just “orange netting” blowing in the wind, police have said.
The suspected blaze was first reported at around 2.15pm today. Lancashire firefighters cordoned off the tower and sent six fire engines and a drone team.
Videos showed what appeared to be orange flames at the top of the structure. But when Lancashire Police sent up a helicopter to assess the situation, they saw it was a false alarm.

The moron laughing should be ashamed.
Ok on a more positive note..The Tower is constructed in such a way that it would survive hurricane force winds. Its built essentially using four triangulated sides that are designed to move in the wind but as they do actually make the structure stronger.Fire aside its almost indesructible bar tampering. It can happily "sway" upto 12" at the top and spring back on itself. The victorians were pretty good at structural engineering .
What's the saying? "There's no smoke without fire"? There's no fire without smoke. Just some orange thing flapping around in the wind
Ahahahaaaaaaaaaaa !
That a piece of cloth blowing in the wind
Locals said they could smell the smoke 🤷🏼♂️
Blackpool Tower Fire sounds too menacing for what it actually was. Now can we just call it a pyrotechnic display [with netting] just to calm people's fears as this is a very French iconic British building. 😉
Anyone with a brain could’ve figure that out
Atleast the tower is ok.
'Orange Netting in the Wind' is one of Elton John''s best songs….
😂😂😂😂😂
Who wrote this headline…
Towering inferno Brexit style…
It’s confirmed orange netting not a fire
Only orange netting could catch fire to cause that much destruction? How did that orange netting catch fire then? There has to be more information around about how that fire started and why. Was that orange netting nearby a kitchen in which the fire started there first? So many possibilites should have been considered before police make maybe only a cryptic sounding instead comment like that.
Storm in a teacup.
Wow, Just Stop Oil getting creative.
People, it wasn't a fire. There was no fire involved. Literally just an orange sheet blowing with the wind.
Seems theres no smoke id say thats kinda obvious its not on fire ffs how thick are people 😂
I could see with binoculars it was plastic mesh blowing in the wind. Took me 5 seconds. All the panickers were desperate to witness something. Pathetic.
Non news event.
Questionable 🤨
No fire without smoke 🙄
Lmao
