Supplies have nearly run out a reporter visited the city of oldenberg where residents are bracing for evacuation here in aldenberg lower Saxony the the incessant rain has caused water levels in the rivers and the canals to rise dramatically the soil is Soden and can’t absorb any more water entire streets are

In danger of being flooded as many as 800 residents will have to leave their homes if the Emergency Services can’t get the water levels under control at the moment there are no plans to evacuate the area but the population has already been warned volunteers try to contain the

Water by building dikes it’s a Race Against Time the longer the flood water pushes up against the sodn dkes the greater the risk that they will break what’s more lower Saxony has nearly run out of sandbags and other German states are having to help out securing kilometers of dkes with sandbags takes

Time so workers are resorting to a different method here Aid workers are building a mobile Dyke system the red panels are put together to form barrels and then filled with water which gives the necessary stability ultimately it could mean a mobile Dyke of up to 2 km long a kind of

Dyke to go made of plastic panels intended to contain the large volume of water when it comes to the possibility of evacuations locals remain cautiously optimistic ANW of course this is a serious situation nevertheless with all the effort that’s been made here over the past few days we must not forget

That these are preventative measures our house is now protected against a threat of dyke breach which could of course happen ultimately the water level keeps on Rising and Rising that is worrying the aid workers are coordinated by the situation Center in aldenberg emercy services are working together with members of Germany’s armed forces

And Aid organizations in an emergency they can mobilize as many as 900 helpers the situation is still tense because we don’t know how much more rain will come in the next few days but overall we have the situation well under control meteorologists say that as much

As 60 mm of rain per square meter could fall in the coming days which means that it’s still far too early to give the all clear quite yet

  1. I live right in Bonn next to the Rhein and I have to always be aware of the danger of flooding because my apartment is very close to the Rhein. So I have two apps on my phone from official type of places, NINA and Meine Pegel.

NINA is a completely useless app, it always gives flood alerts, even when it's the middle of summer and the water level is meters below any danger point. Now it's giving even more flood alerts. But it's not useful information because it's more that the story in the Bible where the boy who cried wolf too many times.

Meine Pegel is a very informative app which gives very detailed information and I can monitor the exact level of the Rhein and the Sieg. At this moment the Sieg is 320cm deep and the Rhein is 705 cm deep, that is how useful the information is from this app, compared to always giving too many flood warnings that don't relate to the river I'm sat right next to.

The people who make the NINA app should look at the Meine Pegel app and just stop making the NINA app because it's no where near good enough for the job it's intended for.

  2. I saw the news on various TV channels. 12 coalition forces, including the US, have announced an attack on Yemen. This is America and the 12-nation democracy of humanity. On the one hand, the Palestinian people are being massacred. Houses are being ransacked. The number of bombs that have been dropped on Gaza so far is as powerful as 7 nuclear bombs. So you can understand what the situation in Gaza can be. More than 30,000 children and women were killed and more than 850,000 were injured. 22 lakh people are living a hard life under the open sky in this cold and rain. They have no one to speak for them. Complete supply including liquid food etc. has been stopped. No medicine, no treatment for injured people. This is the democratic humanity of America and its allies. I kick democracy and humanity with this one eye principle. If Israel stops the war, all problems will be solved. What is the need for war in the Red Sea? Yemenis want Israel to stop the war in Palestine. Send food and medicine to Palestine. Yemen to lift Red Sea blockade On one side there will be joy (in Israel) on the other side (in Palestine) people will die without food or treatment. Can't do that. Yemen's claim is a legitimate claim. Yemen stands for justice. So the winner will be Yemen inshaAllah. The enemy of humanity, the helper of the murderers, the war criminals, eat the blood of zoo Biden and human sacrifice.
Rishi Sunak believes in religion. This war is to drink the blood of their goddess. So these wrongdoers will all drown in the sea like Pharaoh in this war, Insha'Allah.

  3. I can’t believe, as industrious as the Germans are, that they haven’t come up with a national plan for improve soil water absorption with level curves dikes. It’s being years already that floodings have being happening. Heavy rains are followed by deep droughts. Better store some water for agriculture.

  4. I worked on flood control pump stations for many years and I empathize with the people who are being impacted by these floods. So pleased to see major improvement help in protecting communities. Stay strong and work together!

  5. In the Netherlands we've got the old wind Mills and 100 year old steam Mill running to keep the water at bay… Hoping it will hold.

  7. Some people are joking around here, but this isn't a joke. My family lives not far away from a spring in that area. In normal times, it has 20cm depth and is 2 meters wide. Before New Year, this stream has expanded into the fields and flooded all there. You may think – just fields?

Yep, just fields for the time being. The problem is… The base of the spring was over 1.5 deep from the fields. And the spring is over 30 kilometres away from the main river(Weser)

  8. Thank God Saxony-Anhalt invested quite a bit into flood protection after 2011 and 13 otherwise we could have problems nearing the Ahrtal flood

  9. Is it just me but have newscasters suddenly developed all sorts of lisps, bad dentures, and the inability to speak a coherent sentence? Some have serious adenoid problems. Damn

  10. We complain so often about our government and all the rules and prohibitions we have.
But seeing how well everything fits together here and helps the local people makes me a little proud!

A big thank you ❤❤❤❤ to all the volunteers, rescue workers and organizers!
You are doing a great and invaluable job
